The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Pages: 438

I will try and keep this review short even though I have SO much to say about this book.

I will start with the fact that I was really nervous to buy this book, hard cover and all, just to find that I hated it. I have never dabbled into historic war style books but I decided to take a leap and try something new.

I AM HOOKED.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down, finished it in  1.5 days and was actually sad when it ended.

I was really afraid that the book would be too historical for me to enjoy but it’s more of a story about two sisters that live in the same war but have completely different lives and yet both become heroes.

It not only showed bravery and the importance of family, but also helped the reader really feel for the lives of those just trying to make it during WWII.  It had a wonderful balance of love, family, strength, weakness and history to make you almost want to re take history class.

When I finished the book I was shocked at how many different emotions I felt and how much awareness I was brought.

Granted some parts of the book were a bit unrealistic to some degree but even so it’s a novel not a history book.

I was really pleased with how well the book flowed and never seemed to have a single dull moment.

Great great read and has won it’s way to my favorite book of 2020.
